Professional resources


The Institute is Australia’s leading source of psychological learning, providing psychologists and other health professionals high-quality, expert and in-demand CPD learning opportunities through online workshops, courses and webinars. Members have exclusive access to significantly discounted rates.

Online CPD logging tool

To assist members to understand and comply with the complex array of CPD requirements for practising psychologists, the APS has developed a sophisticated online CPD logging system that provides an easy-to-use tool that can be individualised to track progress towards meeting the applicable CPD requirements. The individual online log of activities across applicable categories can be printed to assist in providing evidence of compliance if a member is selected for a random audit by the PsyBA or Medicare Australia.  

Events Calendar

The APS Events Calendar is Australia’s premier listings site for continuing professional development (CPD) events relevant to psychologists, mental health and other allied health professionals. APS Members who advertiser receive a significant discount over non-members.

Practice support

The APS offers a raft of resources for private practice members, including member-only guides for setting up a private practice, legal matters, charter for clients, recommended fee schedule, practice standards, self-care and etherapy, as well as tailored resources for working in the public sector, private sector and in schools. 

Free legal advice

Members who take up the APS-approved Aon professional indemnity insurance are eligible for two hours of free legal advice each year, providing individual support and assurance.

Find a PsychologisT

The APS Find a Psychologist Service is an online, telephone and email referrals service for the public, GPs and health professionals, searchable by location and areas of expertise. Members who join are eligible for a free psychology.org.au web address that they can use in place of their own website.

PsychXchange

Browse the latest employment and business opportunities on PsychXchange, the dedicated site for psychology recruitment. Members can set up tailored job searches.

Tip sheets

Information for clients about a range of psychological issues and how psychologists can help - a great resource for private practitioners and other health professionals, especially GPs.

Proquest

Since 2011, the APS has provided access to online psychological literature databases and enhanced this valued member benefit in 2014 by extending the suite of databases through a new provider, ProQuest. The current arrangements provide members with access to thousands of international journals covering a range of areas relevant to psychology, as well as the MEDLINE database covering all major clinical and healthcare disciplines.

EQIP - Evidence-based and Quality Information for Psychologists

Member-only access to a searchable online database of information and resources to support the provision of evidence-based assessment and treatment across a range of psychological conditions.

Code of Ethics and Ethical Guidelines

New members receive free copies of the APS Code of Ethics and Ethical Guidelines (which apply the Code to a variety of contexts and clients), as well as a range of other ethics resources.

APS Shop

Members have exclusive access to a growing range of publications, practice management software and merchandise on the APS’s new online shop. Many items are customisable to member specifications and are significantly discounted compared to non-members. This augments the existing Member Identity Program.

Member Identity Program

Eligible APS members - Associate Members, Members, Fellows and Honorary Fellows - may use a member version of the APS logo on stationery, reports, publications, signage and websites. Participation in the APS Member Identity Program is free. Simply agree to the terms and conditions of use and download your logos.

Free media training

The APS media team has developed a program of media training to assist members when they face media scrutiny or wish to build their public profile.

Free Forced Adoption training

Like all allied-health professionals, APS members have the option of free training about the history and impacts of forced adoptions.

Media referral network

The APS runs a media referrals program, which nominates expert psychologists to provide evidence-based insight to the media on human behaviour and experiences, popular culture and trends. The media referral service features more than 200 APS psychologists from universities, government and non-government agencies, consulting firms, and private practices. Contact media@psychology.org.au for more information.

ePsychSafe

The ePsychSafe™ initiative is an APS programme that approves APS members who are capable of sending and receiving client information in secure and encrypted ways (SMD), utilising a National E-Health Transition Authority (NEHTA) approved secure messaging provider. Those who are approved by the APS as ePsychSafe™ will have the opportunity to have their practice and secure messaging provider details listed in the soon to be updated APS Find a Psychologist Service. The APS is working with two recommended providers Global Health and coreplus.  These providers offer an SMD only option, as well as options for Practice Management software plus SMD capability in one package.

Networking

Through our network of more than 22,000 members nationwide, the APS facilitates a large number of national and local events, many of which are organised by APS Colleges, Branches or Interest Groups.

JOIN THE APS NETWORK

Members and Student members studying an APAC accredited course can join any of the nine APS Colleges for $15 per year, allowing you unrivalled access to study a specialised area. There are also 48 Interest Groups to join and you can find and join your local Branch

Supervision

Access a list of Psychology Board of Australia approved supervisors in your area, via the searchable APS College Supervisor register, by visiting the member directory for your local Branch or by referring to the APS register of supervisors with experience in school psychology.

Free Malpractice Insurance

As a psychology postgraduate student or registrar, undertaking supervised work experience exposes you to many risks and therefore the potential for a client to bring a claim against you. Aon, the APS’s approved insurance partner, is offering free combined malpractice insurance cover (including professional indemnity, public and product liability) available from October 1st, 2015 for 12 months. Once you’ve become a practising psychologist or have completed your registrar program, Aon can easily transition you across to the APS-approved professional indemnity package with 14 months’ cover for the price of 12 offer.
